Every Team Must Provide a Level 1 Certified and Assignable Referee to the League

Guys,

I know things are in a bit of organizationalflux right now, but I need to bring this up… the reason we have been sosuccessful in providing referees in seasons past is because every team haspitched in and provided a level 1 certified and assignable referee into thepool (to do a minimum of 3 matches). Until notified otherwise, wehave to plan on a similar policy so we can cover spring matches.

As of now, I have had referees volunteer tocover for Anderson, USI, Wabash, Purdue A and B, IU A and B, IU women, BSUWomen. Columbus, Indy Men A and B, WhiteRiver

NOT covered are new teams (and don’t have tothis year, but will be looking for this next year) are Grace Seminary, IPFW,Wesleyan, Avon.

THE TEAMS WHO NEED TO PONY UP are:

DePauw (they had someone last year but he is not active this year)

Indy women (ditto)

For teams that are not compliant we have three opportunities for them to getsomeone certified:

14 January in Georgetown IL

21 Jan in Columbus IN

4 Feb in Michigan City IN

Please pass this on to DePauw and Indy women sothey can have a chance to become compliant for this spring.

Indiana Rugby Referee Society Level 1 Officiating - Introduction to Officiating Courses

The Indiana Rugby Referee Society will hold Level 1 Officiating – Introduction to Officiating courses at the following locations and dates (8am–5 pm):

Saturday, 14 January La Salette Academy, Georgetown, IL (a TJ course will follow)
Saturday, 4 February Marquette HS, Michigan City, IN
Saturday, 21 January Foundation For Youth, 405 Hope Ave., Columbus, IN

The purpose of this course is to enable officials to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable competition. The course covers referee priorities, game knowledge and management and an introduction to the Laws. There is pre-class work that must be completed (see below), class work and Rugby activity in a fieldhouse, so wear suitable clothing and shoes. The course will begin at 8am and last until approximately 5:00 pm (although we may be out earlier depending on the class). At the La Salette site, the TJ course will start at 4PM and be finished by 5:30.

The cost of the L1 course is $50.00 and $15 to cover lunch and gas donation for the visiting instructor. Registration is online through the usarugby.org website. Click on Referees andRegister for a Referee Training Course. In order to receive certification you need to hold current USA Rugby membership including registration as a referee at membership.usarugby.org/default.aspx . You may attend the course without that, but if you wish to referee, membership is required. The TJ course is an additional $25.

Please complete the IRB Rugby Ready online study prior to the course at www.irbrugbyready.com/ . It is required that individuals take an open book law exam; please complete prior to the course at www.irblaws.com. Links to both of the on-line courses are also available on the www.usarugby.org website. Participants who have completed the online material prior to the course must bring their certificates showing they have completed these online requirements. Those who don’t will not be certified until these requirements are fulfilled. Additionally, all course participants are required to answer the five safety questions on the day of the course.

We will have brackets for all D3 Men's and Collegiate clubs as well as a women's/collegiate bracket plus we will invite any D3 men's, womens or collegiate club in Indiana interested in joining the IRFU to participate in the event.

There is no entry fee - limit one 7's team enetry per club
